![]() ![]() ![]() Creating a headline is a process of focusing on the central message of an ad, finding a few words that capture that message, and then adding a twist if possible to make the headline more memorable. It was (and still is) my job to create headlines for ads. I think one reason I take so easily to title writing is my background in advertising as a creative director. ![]() I usually create the title before I start writing and only occasionally change them. I find titles to be one of the most important drivers for my books. For many authors, creating titles is a chore, an afterthought, or even a job they relegate to their publisher. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Unpleasantness At the Bellona Club centres around the murder of elderly General Fentiman, found deprived of his mortal coil when he spent too long snoozing in his usual chair at the Bellona Club, a London gentleman’s club. I don’t summarize or review, therefore, these comments may only be of interest to someone who’s read and/or is interested in Sayers. I don’t spoil, so feel free to keep reading. This post is by way of expressing some of my random thoughts while I read. What I did and do retain is Lord Peter Wimsey, Sayers’s acerbic writing, and the feeling that everything is precariously tottering on the edge of tragedy. Because I never read for plot and promptly forget it when I’m done, I might as well have never read it. BTW, I’m rereading Sayers’s murder mystery series. Today, alternating reading with work tasks and making full-use of a quiet lunch hour, I finished Dorothy Sayers’s The Unpleasantness At the Bellona Club (1928). ![]() ![]() Think about all the small things in the big world. The first white six-wheeled Starship delivery robots appeared on the Bowling Green State University campus in February 2020.
